I’m Back from the Third Dimension: CES 2010!

Hey everyone. Well, I’m back from last week’s 2010 Consumer Electronics Show (CES) in Las Vegas. As you’ve undoubtedly heard, 3D was all anyone could talk about.  After numerous demonstrations of 3D this and 3D that – including Blu-ray 3D, which is coming later this year – I can tell you that I for one am not sold.

3D technology is an interesting curiosity but it has many hurdles to clear before it becomes viable for mainstream home entertainment. These hurdles include flicker-prone video, expensive hardware (at least initially) and let’s not forget everyone having to wear those sexy glasses. (A particularly annoying pain in the ass for those who already wear standard glasses!) Personally, I’d prefer to leave 3D at the multiplex or IMAX theater and make it an event, for those rare occasions when my wife and I get a night out on the town. I’m sure theater owners would prefer that as well.

However, ordering a Nook today at BN.com should get you one by mid-January, so it still makes for an exciting “gift card” of sorts this holiday season. Before you book your Nook, read on to see how it compares to Amazon’s venerable Kindle…“  (read the full review)

Amazon Kindle Review

Amazon Kindle reviewCheck out my Amazon Kindle review at Big Picture Big Sound:

Every once in a while, a product comes along that captures the public’s attention in such a way that it becomes a giddy race to become the first kid on the block to have one. Products like these aren’t necessarily huge sellers – often due to a hefty initial price tag – but they have an uncanny ability to impress, titillate and get people talking. When it debuted in November of 2007, Amazon’s Kindle e-book reader instantly became such a product.

Much has been written about the first generation Kindle and there’s no getting around the fact that it was one odd-looking duck. With its angular lines, bizarre keyboard orientation and quirky scroll controller, it’s hardly a stretch to say that the first Kindle was aesthetically challenged. The second generation Kindle (”Kindle 2“), released earlier this year, is the result of a thorough redesign and it’s obvious that complaints about its predecessor’s design did not fall on deaf ears…”
